CLASSICAL AND RENAISSANCE ITALY:
THE LEGACY OF ANCIENT GREECE AND ROME
March 12-23, 2016
The trip is designed to allow students of Latin and Art History to visit the places that figure in the history and literature they have studied and to encounter the architecture and works of art created both by the ancient Romans themselves and by later artists inspired by their civilization. Students will discover the excitement of being in the places where historical and mythological events actually (or supposedly) took place. They will also deepen their understanding of Latin literature as they view the landscapes and experience the air and light that inform a writer’s descriptive imagery. Finally, they will get to know another culture and gain an appreciation of the way ancient traditions inform the present.
